Traveling is also about discovering the communities that take shape around art. On July 18, 2026, Oaxaca hosted the first edition of Trazo Town, a gathering that brought together illustration, fanzines, music, and independent design in a space where connection itself was at the heart of the experience. Mi Valedor was there to be part of it.
The first edition of Trazo Town: Illustration Fair, held at Dogtown Oaxaca Skate School, brought together independent illustration, fanzine, design, and tattoo projects in an intimate space that, precisely because of its size, allowed for close and meaningful exchanges among artists, exhibitors, and visitors.
Yonebay García Flores, one of Mi Valedor’s representatives at the fair, recalls that the atmosphere defining the day could be felt from the very beginning, while everyone was setting up their stands. “Even though no one knew each other beforehand, a really wonderful sense of community emerged right there on the spot,” she says.
The fair was organized by Reacia Ediciones, an independent publishing project founded by illustrator Ana Paula Casgar, who envisioned a space where fellow artists and creators could come together. The open call exceeded expectations, bringing together primarily local artists along with a handful of invited projects from other states, including Mi Valedor.
The venue itself also played an important role in shaping the experience. Throughout the space were inviting spots where people could linger, chat, and connect—including a café that many visitors returned to throughout the day. “I think the venue itself really encouraged that,” Yon recalls. “You’d grab a coffee, come back, chat with people, and then continue exploring all the different projects.”
The day came to a close with a performance by singer Tania Chan. Among the songs she performed was Fito Páez’s Yo vengo a ofrecer mi corazón (“I Come to Offer My Heart”), as she encouraged the audience to discover and support the work of artists who are creating today. “It’s important to buy from and gather with living artists,” she said.
Perhaps because every artist offers a part of their heart through what they create. To be present while that heart is still beating before us is to truly receive their work—and to let them know that exposing their soul to the world was not in vain.
More than an illustration fair, Trazo Town left everyone with the feeling that, if only for a single day, a genuine community had been created. On this occasion, Mi Valedor was represented at the fair by Valedor Ricardo Enríquez Díaz.

As they explored the galleries, the group had the opportunity to discover one of the most significant private collections of Mexican art from the twentieth century, while sharing an enriching experience of learning and community.

The event brought together artists, community organizations, and attendees in a celebration dedicated to strengthening safe spaces and supporting grassroots initiatives that promote inclusion and provide care and support sexual and gender diversity.
