Manos Amigues: A Night of Solidarity, Diversity, and Community Featuring Tareke Ortiz and Other Collaborating Artists

27/07/2026

Music, art, and diversity came together on June 5 during a fundraising evening in support of Manos Amigues LGBTQ+ Community Center. The event brought together artists, community organizations, and attendees in a celebration dedicated to strengthening safe spaces and supporting grassroots initiatives that promote inclusion and provide care and support sexual and gender diversity.

Founded in 2018, Manos Amigues has become a community center dedicated to promoting well-being, inclusion, and support for LGBTQ+ people. Through cultural events, workshops, community gatherings, and mutual support networks, the organization works to strengthen the community while creating safe and welcoming spaces for everyone.

The evening began with a screening of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the iconic work created by John Cameron Mitchell that, since its debut, has become a cultural touchstone for generations of audiences.

The evening continued with live music at a fundraising event organized to support the programs and community initiatives carried out by Manos Amigues. Among the night’s standout performances was that of Tareke Ortiz, a musician, singer, and songwriter who, through his project SIL3NCIO, shares messages of peace, love, and transformation through an artistic approach that blends sensitivity with reflection. His performance became one of the highlights of the evening, contributing to the spirit of connection and solidarity that defined the event.

The program also featured performances by flutist Horacio Franco and musician Juan Manuel Torreblanca, whose contributions added depth and variety to the evening’s musical lineup. A blues singer also brought a distinct sound and atmosphere to the event, further enriching the artistic program in support of the cause. The evening brought together a diverse audience that responded enthusiastically to each performance. The combination of artistic expressions, the welcoming atmosphere, and the event’s fundraising purpose created a night defined by community, mutual respect, and a celebration of diversity.

As one of the invited organizations, Mi Valedor was present to share its work in alternative media, social inclusion, and the solidarity economy. Valedor Camaxtli represented the project by showcasing books, fanzines, photographs, T-shirts, and other publications and merchandise. Taking part in gatherings like this helps strengthen connections with other community initiatives while introducing Mi Valedor’s work to new audiences committed to building a more just and inclusive city.

Beyond raising funds, the evening reaffirmed the role of culture as a powerful tool for fostering connection, dialogue, and collaboration. Through music and collective participation, the event became a testament to the power of artistic expression to strengthen community networks and shine a light on the initiatives that work every day toward a more diverse, inclusive, and supportive society.

Mi Valedor extends its heartfelt thanks to Manos Amigues for creating spaces where art, diversity, and community work come together to build networks of support, empathy, and social transformation.
