Fanzine Fest! Mi Valedor at FEZME, La Esmeralda’s Fanzine Fair at CENART

13/07/2026

On Friday, June 26, the Mi Valedor team took part as a guest at FEZME, a vibrant fanzine fair held at La Esmeralda School of Arts, located within Mexico’s National Center for the Arts (CENART). The festival brought together a wide range of independent projects, students, and artists to share their work and creative practices. It provided an ideal space for exchanging ideas, engaging with community-based art, and celebrating the free expression of the participating collectives.

Representing Mi Valedor at the stand was Filemón, who warmly welcomed visitors, shared the project’s social mission, and introduced the seasonal magazines. Those who stopped by not only learned about this meaningful initiative but also enjoyed engaging conversations. Throughout the day, the stand became a welcoming space full of kindness, direct dialogue and inclusion within the festival community.

The fair was bustling with activity. Alongside the magazines and other publications, visitors could try their luck at a prize wheel, making a small contribution for the chance to win a variety of prizes. The venue was filled with stalls displaying original illustrations, handmade notebooks with beautifully crafted covers, and eye-catching postcards. With such a wide range of visual projects on display, it was impossible not to stop and admire the creativity of the exhibitors.

For those looking to take home something unique, there was an excellent selection of clothing and accessories, including T-shirts with original prints and illustrated tote bags perfect for everyday use featuring hand-drawn phrases. Visitors could also browse fanzines featuring all kinds of stories, embroidered patches for backpacks, collectible pins, and caps. Supporting local creators and fair trade was at the heart of the event, and the student community embraced the initiative with great enthusiasm.

Traditional graphics also drew plenty of attention, with hand-carved engravings, stickers in every shape and size, and silkscreen prints ready to be displayed. Visitors strolled through the tree-lined outdoor walkways, where many of the works were hung for everyone to appreciate up close. Every corner reflected the dedication of independent artists who use printmaking as their primary means of expression.

As if that weren’t enough, the fair also featured makers working in functional and decorative ceramics, showcasing pieces carefully crafted by hand with remarkable attention to detail. Their tables displayed custom mugs, illustrated tableware, and collectible ceramic figures alongside small-scale paintings rich in texture and vibrant color. The combination of disciplines highlighted the huge richness and creative diversity of the independent design scene.

One of the day’s most interactive attractions was a special area featuring a photo booth and a playful pop-up where visitors could take part in a mock wedding, complete with a novelty marriage certificate. The activity sparked laughter, encouraged people to mingle, and added to the festive atmosphere under the event tents, with couples and groups of friends lining up to participate. Complete with bridal veils and sparkling decorations, the mock ceremonies created memorable moments for everyone involved.

Beyond the games and printed publications, participating projects also treated visitors to interactive experiences, including temporary tattoos that let people wear art on their skin in a fun way. FEZME at La Esmeralda school once again proved to be an outstanding platform for emerging artists, mutual support, and cultural exchange.

Finally, everyone at Mi Valedor would like to thank the authorities at La Esmeralda and the FEZME organizing team for the invitation and for providing such a valuable space to share our work at CENART. Spending the day with the university community inspires us to continue building networks of support and inclusion through culture.
