Mi Valedor celebrated the launch of The Stars from My Rooftop, the first illustrated novel by Valedor Toño, in the warm and welcoming space of the gallery-workshop Otra Cosa Sin Nombre (OCSN). This event marked a significant milestone for the author and for our community, highlighting the transformative power of art and writing.
“The stars of my rooftop” is a work profoundly personal that mixes text and illlustration in order to narrate the story of a kid whos finds in the starry sky a refuge from adversity. With poetic metaphores and vibrant strokes, Toño leads us to explore dreams, the infinite posibliities that emerge even in the darkest times.
The book is not only a story of resilience but also a reflection on loneliness, the importance of community, mental health, and how the small things — like looking at the stars from a rooftop — can open up unforeseen horizons.
The project was conceived during Toño’s residency at the Otra Cosa Sin Nombre Gallery-Workshop (OCSN). This space, located in the Roma Norte neighborhood, has become a gathering place for artists and creatives. OCSN’s mission, centered on hospitality and care, was essential for Toño to develop his work in a safe and enriching environment.
We would like to thank Otra Cosa Sin Nombre Gallery-Workshop for providing a space where artists like Toño can find support to share their talent. We also extend our gratitude to the attendees who made this presentation an event filled with warmth and solidarity.
The presentation was an intimate and emotional event. Friends, collaborators, and supporters of Mi Valedor gathered to celebrate Toño’s work, listened to excerpts from the book read by the author himself, and explored the illustrations that bring this moving story to life.
“The Stars from My Rooftop” is now available for those who wish to immerse themselves in this unique work that reminds us that, even in the most difficult situations, there is always a starry sky waiting to inspire us.
