A Rainy Afternoon among Vinyl, Fanzines, and Music at Discozine

13/07/2026

On July 4, Discozine brought together independent projects, record collectors, and music lovers at The Big Wings & Burgers in Santa María la Ribera for a free community event. Throughout the day, attendees browsed vinyl records, CDs, cassettes, and fanzines, while live DJs provided the soundtrack.

Among crates of vinyl records, graphic design stalls, independent publishers, and self-managed creative projects, attendees explored work by entrepreneurs and artists who not only showcased their own creations but also helped amplify the work of others. Throughout the afternoon, DJs kept the space alive with music, creating the perfect atmosphere to discover new records, flip through fanzines, or simply settle in to watch the World Cup football matches.

The rain also took center stage. In what felt like an instant, it seemed there was more water in the sky than air around us. Soon after, hail began to fall, and the day turned completely gray. Even so, the venue became a refuge for everyone there. While the storm raged outside, the France vs. Paraguay match played on indoors. It was one of those moments that makes a place feel especially welcoming.

The constant motion of Mexico City often becomes part of the people who live in it. That’s why it’s worth appreciating spaces that pull you away from the rush of the streets and go into an environment that creates the opposite. Add a rainy afternoon—which naturally invites people to slow down—and time itself seems to ease its pace. In that setting, Discozine became an anchor, where music, independent publishing, and design came together far from the city’s rhythm. It was a genuine pause.

The food offerings also added to the experience. Between browsing vinyl stands, many attendees enjoyed burgers and fries from The Big Wings & Burgers, one of the event’s favorite combinations.

As at every event, Mi Valedor took part by sharing its publications and talking with visitors about the project. Valedor Filemón was there throughout the day, introducing people to the magazines, fanzines, and other editorial products that are part of the initiative.

We’d like to thank Discozine and The Big Wings & Burgers for welcoming us, giving us shelter from the rain, and making possible a day where music, art, and community came together in one place.
