* “Mi Valedor” is a slang expression of camaraderie, friendship, solidarity and rapport used commonly in urban Mexico City, similar to “My bro, my homie, my buddy…”
We are an organization providing the opportunity for marginalized and homeless people to positively affect their lives, through culture and the creation of healthy support networks.
At Mi Valedor, we focus on helping the most vulnerable sectors of society living in Mexico City; homeless and socially excluded people, groups in need of protection such as immigrants, single mothers, the elderly, and people with disabilities, through a model of self-employment.
Additionally, we complement this vocation by offering the program’s participants workshops to recover the skills that social isolation has taken from them.
With personalized guidance for the magazine sellers (or “valedores”) and the close monitoring of their individual cases, we have managed to build trust and support their ability to help themselves.
To create a pioneering support model for Mexico City’s most at-risk populations, effectively and permanently reintegrating the project beneficiaries into gainful employment and into society as a whole.
To create an environment of equality in access to employment opportunities and provide tools for constant and continuous advancement to socially vulnerable populations through sales of the Mi Valedor magazine, positive support networks and workshops to strengthen social and cultural skills.
To replicate the Mi Valedor model in other Mexican cities and expand our readership to guarantee more opportunities for progression to our beneficiaries.
Founded five years ago, the first of its kind in Mexico, Mi Valedor is a timeless and collectible publication that, through articles and images, depicts the daily happenings of Mexico City’s bustling streets.
